Sharing My Love of Flowers
As many of you may know, flowers have played an important part of my life since I was young. I worked at my family’s flower shop in my youth and the time I spent in the there has had a profound impact on me.
When you take a look at all of the parties, ceremonies, galas, wedding and other events that I’ve designed, you will see that FLOWERS are core elements to my events. I believe that they add a high level of elegance, natural beauty and really define the ambiance and atmosphere to a room.
Well so you know most of my career all I have ever thought of was real flowers, but then I started to see these works of art made of paper. I was stunned by the craftsman ship and dedication to detail. I had clients that loved the idea of paper flower walls. The positive feedback was amazing.
This prompted me and my Sizzix Team to put our creative minds together to see if we could develop a new DIY collection around paper flowers.
Well…I’m happy to announce that we did it!
This new collection is focused on helping you make these gorgeous paper flowers and use them everyday at home for just fun decor or go big and unlock your event planner designer side and use them to decor your next event!
You know me, I say dream bigger and so we went bigger with this collection of: Large Dahlia, Large Lily, Large Succulent, Large Rose, Large Peony, Large Magnolia and of course we made some regular sized as well. There is also a pretty great Crease and Curl Tool as well!
I worked with the Sizzix Creative Team to design the collection so that it works perfectly with the Sizzix Big Shot die cutting machine that can be found in the David Tutera inspired Big Shot Starter Kit.
By folding a piece of paper in half and layering the flower shape die on top of it to cut the flower with the Big Shot die cutting machine, you can achieve a larger shape. This is so cool as you can make larger flowers.
You can make both medium and large sized paper flowers. I wanted to create varied sizes so that they could provide you with versatility in how you could use them.
The flowers also have support leaves to allow you to further embellish your flower creations. When fully completed, their sizes come out at approximately 5 inches and 12 inches in diameter.
I also have a Crease and Curl Tool that you can use to flower petals to create volume and contour to them, which really brings them to life and makes them look so real.
And because the flowers are cut from paper, you can ink them with different colors of ink to add further texture and style to the petals. The flowers can be used in so many ways.
Here are some ideas I had when I was thinking about how I’d use these flowers:
Weddings are all about the sweet love story between two people. Add color and personalization as you tell your story on your special day with a gorgeous Large Dahlia.
Strike a pose! A wonderful way to add color to your wedding is through photo backdrops and the combination of the large and small 3-D flowers make for backdrop that really pops.
Whether you use the daisy petals as a guestbook or add a gorgeous flower as an accent to your guest book table- you really can’t go wrong.
Are you thinking about favors for your guests? Add a few pieces of candy to the middle of the roses and now it’s not just functional decor but also a sweet keepsake!
Give your chairs a boost at the ceremony and the reception by draping one or two of the lovely Peonies on the back!
Dessert/ Sweetheart Table Decor
Use the small roses as a sweet addition to any sweetheart or cake table!
But what about after the wedding? My flowers are just as versatile for everyday life:
The Magnolia mounted onto a simple or decorate frame will add that extra oomph to your home decor.
Dining Room Center Piece
Statement pieces can be gorgeous and affordable. How great to create your own lasting center piece for your dining room table?
Add this Lily to your party decor and voila-Instant accent pieces!
The garland opportunities with this gorgeous Lotus are endless!
Remember that Crease and Curl tool I mentioned earlier? Here’s what it looks like! We combined a bone folder with two prongs that will help you crease AND curl your flowers with ease.
